TOP DEPARTMENT INCREASES PROTECTIVE CAPABILITY

BOILING SPRINGS FIRE DISTRICT PLACES NEW TRUCK IN SERVICE

(August 1, 2005 / Greenville, SC) The Boiling Springs Fire District, Upstate South Carolina’s only ISO Class 1 department, today unveiled its new truck to protect residential and commercial interests located within the district that covers Greenville County’s east side.

Built by American LaFrance, the Ladson, SC-based subsidiary of Freightliner, Boiling Springs Fire District’s new Eagle pumper truck is capable of disbursing 1500 gallons of water per minute while carrying 1000 gallons of water and 30 gallons of polypropylene fire suppression foam in on-board storage tanks.

With seating for five firefighters and an engineer, this first response 430 horsepower truck also carries a full battery of equipment including extrication apparatus, a 6000 watt generator, and a thermal imaging camera.

According to Gerald Luker, chief of Boiling Springs Fire Department, the Eagle pumper truck is housed with a large Eagle platform truck at the department’s headquarters on Pelham RoadSouth Batesville Road, respectively. and joins 2001 and 2003 Eagle pumper trucks at the district’s stations on Hudson and

“After receiving our Class 1 rating which saves our residents and businesses on insurance costs, we want to continue expanding our department’s capabilities. Our district’s safety is our foremost mission, and I’m proud that we can continue to accomplish our mission while our commissioners further their fiscal responsibility by keeping millage rates at a minimum," Chief Luker said.

The Boiling Springs Fire District’s millage dropped from 30 mils in 1980 to 21.2 mils following Greenville County’s last property reassessment.

Established in 1968 and located on Greenville County’s Eastside, the Boiling Springs Fire District covers 15 square miles and serves over 26,000 residents.
