The Palmetto State's 95th Inaugural (http://2011inaugural.sc.gov/) festivities are rapidly approaching (January 11-12), and organizers want to involve South Carolinians from across the state.
Right now, there is a need for volunteers for "Family Fun Night" on Tuesday Jan 11th.
There are spots open from 9:00am until 3:00pm that need to be filled for set up that include activities like organizing tables, decorating and setting out supplies. I've been told that it should be easy and laid back.
If you or anyone you know is interested but can't work the entire time, shifts can be split.
There is also a need for volunteers during the "Family Fun Night" event itself to help with a few things going on. Kids will paint flags to send to the troops, so they'll need help with that, and they'll also need help with drinks and tables. Organizers told me that they don't want anyone to have to work the entire event, so they're slating people for 1.5 hour shifts in order to allow volunteers to enjoy the rest of the event.
Volunteers will also be needed after "Family Fun Night" ends to do things like help make sure people exit and assist in clean up.
There may be a small need for some volunteers at the Statehouse on the day of the ceremony (Wednesday, January 12), but I'm not sure of availability there because Statehouse staffers usually fill those slots.
If you're interested in or know anyone who may be interested in volunteering for the inaugural events, please contact Ashley Martin at ashleyhmartin@gmail.com to let her know.
